Triangle Theory – Becoming Unstuck
I have lost count of all the ACTION books I’ve read. All the many, many books on habits, logical processes, choosing Just One Thing, 80/20 systems, yeah, yeah, YEAH. I get it. I understand my habits are appalling, my get-up-and-go has gone, my inaction is my undoing, my lack of a system is a problem, my grit, will and determination levels barely register on any scale.
But what no one EVER seems to satisfactorily address is WHY?
WHY can’t I follow through on my understanding that a tiny habit, practised every day, will bring great results, and then actually go and DO it? Every day. Long enough to bring the ‘great results’. WHY can’t I just get on with the simple things.
Things that might make my life better?
Does this sound like you right now?
Relax. Real, deep change is not easy to do on your own. If you’re feeling resistance now, you might be very interested in the section after this: Parts Theory. It is the answer to why we self-sabotage, feel unmotivated, procrastinate and use 101 other avoidence tactics. So, don’t stress right now, this will all come together as you work through the programme. Right now you can just notice yourself, not finding this ACTION task easy and gently ask yourself why.
And, while you’re in the pondering mood, look over any of the answers to the questions from the last lesson. What was your reaction to your answers as you wrote them? What is your reaction to your answers as you look them over now?
As you work through this programme, try to noice and make a note of any reactions or thoughts you have to the content. Don’t edit or filter, just allow your hand to write, or type, what it wants to. Then keep your answers to your questions and responses to your answers nice and safe. You may well want to refer to them in future sections.
But what if you can’t answer any of the questions, or some of them are just too hard?
Don’t worry, just try to answer one or two. It’s important to take even the smallest ACTION.
